Iphone to be banned in India?

The fight between Apple and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is intensifying as the latter has made it clear that it would ask telecom companies to ban iPhone from their networks. The main issue is the iPhone not allowing TRAI call recording app to the users.

An app called DND which is recently updated to DND 2.0 serves and messages over the phone. Apple, in the aspects of privacy risk, is not willing to make the app available on the iPhone. The Android maker, Google, is already providing the DND app to the users.

The new regulations published by TRAI on Thursday suggest that smartphone users in the country should be able to install the DND 2.0 app on their phones, may it be an IOS user or an Android user. The regulations have been made mandatory for the telecom companies.

The document said, “Every Access Provider shall ensure, within six months’ time, that all smartphone devices registered on its network support the permissions required for the functioning of such Apps as prescribed in the regulations 6(2)(e) and regulations 23(2)(d).”

“Provided that where such devices do not permit functioning of such Apps as prescribed in regulations 6(2)(e) and regulations 23(2)(d), Access Providers shall, on the order or direction of the Authority, ban such devices from their telecom networks”, the document mentioned.

In such cases, the 3G and 4G connectivity to iPhone would be disabled if Apple does not bring the call recording app into availability.

However, Apple is working on providing spam features in the new IOS 12 update. What one has to wait and see is if TRAI would be convinced with such feature in the phone or would stand on the word of mandating call recording app availability.
