To increase the tourist footfall in Vizianagaram, the state government has proposed a tourism rock garden in the district.
The one of its kind tourism garden in the state would be set up by Andhra Pradesh Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation.
Including kids playing space, an open-air gym and a lawn, the government is planning to complete the construction within 4 months. Cactus and succulents would also be developed to add more beauty to the garden. The site already bears a heritage water tank and huge trees ranging between 100-120 years of age.
P Satyanarayana, landscape architect and environmental designer, Andhra Pradesh Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation, quoted as saying, “We have completed the planning stage of the project and staff have been deployed to execute the Vizianagaram rock garden project. Once the civil works are completed, the plantation works would begin.”
“To give the original feel, the pathway in the park will be laid with cobblestone and khondalite stones. Also, the existing natural rocks will be used for planning the seating arrangements inside the park,” Satyanarayana mentioned.
Consultant and advisor, Omhariom Exotica, Hariom Singh, said that several exotic species would be planted.
“Cactus and succulents plantation is a growing trend in plant arrangements as it not only requires less maintenance but also enhances the look of the garden. Species like American cactus, beautiful leafy cactus, shrubby cactus and other exotic species will be planted in the rock garden,” Singh added.
