Total number of coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh crosses 40,000

Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, reported 2,602 new coronavirus cases as the state’s total crossed the 40,000-mark. The total now stands at 40,646. As per the bulletin released by the Health Department of Andhra Pradesh this afternoon, 2592 of these new cases have been reported in Andhra Pradesh while individuals from other states and countries accounted for 8 cases and 2 cases respectively.

Andhra Pradesh also registered 42 new casualties due to coronavirus in 24 hours. Six individuals from Anantapur, five from Chittoor, five from East Godavari, five from Prakasam, four from Guntur, four from West Godavari, three from Kadapa, three from Visakhapatnam, two from Kurnool, two from Nellore, two from Vizianagaram, and one from Krishna died due to coronavirus. Consequently, the death toll in Andhra Pradesh has now surged to 534.

20,245 samples were tested across Andhra Pradesh between Thursday and Friday. So far, Andhra Pradesh has tested 12,60,512 samples for coronavirus. While 20,298 individuals (including the 837 individuals discharged today) have been discharged so far, 19,814 coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh have been marked active as on Friday afternoon. Of the active COVID-19 patients, 16,584 are undergoing treatment at hospitals while 3,230 are at COVID Care Centres.

On Friday, India became the third country after the United States and Brazil to record over a million coronavirus cases. By recording a record spike of 34,956 new cases in a single day, India witnessed coronavirus cases continue to surge. The death toll increased to 25,602 with 687 fatalties in a single day.
