Ministry of Commerce & Industry has announced Top Export Districts in India for 2021-22 under the ‘Districts as Export Hubs Initiative’ in India in which Vizag secured 14th position . The main idea of this initiative is to identify and address challenges for exports of certain identified products and improve supply chains.
Vizag has been listed for the Engineering Goods ( 845.96 US$ Million), Organic And Inorganic Chemicals (777.27 US$ Million), Drugs And Pharmaceuticals (469.45 US$ Million), Marine Products (239.71US$ Million), and Petroleum Products (137.76US$ Million). The various products are coconut-based products, alloy wheels, cashew, black pepper, seafood, turmeric, honey, handicrafts like Etikoppakka Toys, minerals and mineral based Products (Apatite, Crystalline Lime Stone, Quartz, Vermiculite, White Clay, Ruby, Mica, Calcite, Red and Yellow Ochre), Silver Oakwood, Araku Coffee, Ginger Powder, and Etikoppaka Toysashtra.
In these rankings, Jamnagar (Gujarat) has topped the list followed by Surat (Gujarat), and Mumbai (Maharashtra). The other districts that made to the top 30 of thriving export districts in India include Mumbai Suburban (Maharashtra), Pune (Maharashtra), Bharuch (Gujarat), Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Gautam Buddha Nagar (Uttar Pradesh), Bengaluru Urban (Karnataka), DevbhumiDwarka (Gujarat), Kutch (Gujarat), Thane (Maharashtra), Raigad (Maharashtra), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka), East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh), Gurugram (Haryana), Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu), Kolkata (West Bengal), Vadodara (Gujarat), Valsad (Gujarat), Jharsuguda (Odisha), Dadra And Nagar Haveli (Dadra & Nagar Haveli), Bellary (Karnataka), Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Palghar (Maharashtra), Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), and Jaipur (Rajasthan).
The total export of the top five commodities that have been identified in Visakhapatnam district is 2470.15US$ Million, with Engineering goods being the highest exported product. While the export value of the district is 2755.02US$ Million, preceded by Thane (Maharashtra). Visakhapatnam products have reached adequate quality for manufacturing and have got quite a number of buyers outside India. While a number of challenges have been faced to achieve this ranking, subtle efforts in the fields of supply chain and market accessibility might bring in more business to the Manufacturing Industries in Vizag.
