The very severe cyclonic storm Titli crossed the coast on Thursday early morning, with a wind speed of close to 150 kmph. Apart from causing a widespread destruction, the cyclone has claimed the lives of eight people in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh.
While six fishermen were killed after venturing into the sea, a 62-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man were killed in the storms in Gudivada and Srikakulam respectively.
The common life in the cyclone-hit areas has been thrown into chaos. Numerous electric poles and trees have been uprooted by strong winds. Reportedly, the power supply too, to more than 4000 villages was affected in Srikakulam district. The telecommunications networks have also been hit in these areas.
Making a landfall near Gopalpur in Odisha, the Titli cyclone hasn’t caused much of a ruckus in Vizag. Speaking to Yo! Vizag, an official at the Cyclone Warning Centre informed that the very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) has crossed the coast near the Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha border. Vizag, on the other hand, is not likely to be affected majorly apart from receiving a few showers and going through a breezy day.
Informedly, the officials have also asked the concern authorities and personnel at the Kalingapatnam, Gangavaram and Vizag ports to lower the danger signals. However, it would be advisable to follow precautions and not venture into the sea.
