TDP stands as regional party with the second highest income in 2016-17: ADR report

ADR regional parties income report: As per a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the regional party with the second most income with Rs 72.92 crore (22.71%) for the year 2016-17.

The audit report, which comprised the income details of about 32 regional parties, revealed that the Samajwadi Party, with its income of Rs 82.76 crore, stood as the regional party with the highest income for the specified year. The combined income of all the 32 parties was Rs 321.3 crore, it has been reported.

While Tamil Nadu’s  All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) stood third with Rs 48.88 crore, Telangana’s TRS and Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Congress Party reported incomes of Rs 3.79 crore and 0.94 crores respectively.

TDP witnessed a rise of Rs 56.94 crore in 2016-17, whereas TRS and YSRCP had a drop of Rs 5.11 crore and Rs 97 lakh respectively in their incomes.

The Chandrababu Naidu-led party also stood among the parties with the highest unspent income.  Shiv Sena, All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Janata Dal(S) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, were the other parties in the top 5 of this category.

The regional parties Aam Aadmi Party, All India Forward Bloc, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, Karnataka Janta Paksha, National People’s Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and a few others were among the regional parties that did not submit the audit report to the Election Commission.

It has also been informed that the sources of income for most of the parties were grants, donations, contributions, gross receipts and interest income.
