Watch video: Ugly spat breaks out between TDP and BJP leaders

Events took an ugly turn at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi when a spat broke out between the TDP and BJP leaders. A war of words took place between the two parties on granting a special railway zone for Andhra Pradesh with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.

“When Telugu Desam MPs and MLAs met Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal to demand Railway Zone for Vizag, GVL Narasimha Rao interfered even as the Minister began to reply to questions posed at him. The whole issue of Railway Zone was conveniently sidetracked and the Minister was sent away citing security concerns. Even if BJP has decided to backstab the people who have trusted them, what happened to Telugu BJP MPs GVL and Haribabu? Why are they selling their souls to the devil for a seat in the parliament? Shame on them! (sic),” read a post on the official page of Telugu Desam Party.

The situation seemed to escalate with several MPs shouting at each other. It can also be seen that others started filming the incident as the temperature soared further. Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, later left the venue.

“It is an irresponsible and disheartening response to a long-time demand. We even told them that this was about the people’s sentiments. We will continue to protest and demand what is rightfully ours,” TDP MP Avanthi Srinivas was told the reporters.
