The city of destiny is going to host a National level Table Tennis Tournament after a gap of 28 years. The tournament will be held at the Port Stadium from 19th to 25th of October.
The HRD Minister of the State, Ganta Srinivas Rao released the brochure for the tournament. The President of Visakhapatnam District Table Tennis Association (VDTTA) and MLC M.V.S. Sarma, MP M. Srinivasa Rao, Vice-Chairman of VUDA, T. Baburao Naidu and Senior Divisional Manager of LIC, K. Muralidhar were also present.
The Visakhapatnam District Table Tennis Association is hosting the tournament along with the Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association and the Table Tennis Federation of India.
It is compulsory for all the players across the country to participate in the tournament. A total number of 700 participants will come from all the states and union territories. Players like Sharath Kamal, Saumyajit Ghosh, Manika Batra and Mouma Das who represented India in the Rio Olympics, 2016 will also come and participate.
This is the first major ranking tournament to be held in the State after the Bifurcation. The HRD Minister said that, “After the bifurcation, Vizag has been hosting various sports events and the TDP government is committed to develop the sporting infrastructure across the state”.
The tournament will be held under categories like single, doubles, mixed-doubles for men and women. The singles and doubles categories will be held for junior girls and boys.
