The heat-stroke related deaths seem inevitable in summers with the temperatures in Vizag and the rest of Andhra Pradesh reaching soaring heights year after year. Last year alone, the toll touched 2000. The government of Andhra Pradesh is hell bent on preventing the toll numbers rising in any way it can this year. Buttermilk
and ORS packets are set for distribution to the poor with a budget of Rs 39 crore that has been set aside by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu. 13 district collectors will get Rs 3 crore each for the same.200 crore and 25 crore have also been set aside for supplying drinking water through tankers to 563 villages and several other urban areas respectively. Inoperative handpumps and borewells in villages will also be repaired. The temperatures are set to soar more in the coming days, upto 46-48 degrees Celsius and hopefully these measures should curb the problem to an extent. Water distribution centres are also to be set up at work and public spaces.
District authorities have been directed to engage workers only in the morning and evenings, giving the afternoons off and offering them a respite from the scorching heat.
