A few delegates from South Korea met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday, to express its willingness in extending infrastructure support to the metro rail project in the city of Vizag.
Manufacturers of metro rail coaches, signalling system, and track developers constituted the South Korean delegation.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu informed
the delegation that the Vizag Metro Rail project was a flagship project of the state government.Earlier, proposals were made for a Light Metro Rail project in Vizag. While it was earlier considered that the initially proposed project might not garner an adequate response from the citizens, the officials mooted that the latest project, which is a “medium” version of the earlier project, might end up receiving a better response. It was also reported that the project would be costing lesser sum as compared to its original form.
It was reported that of the total Rs 8000 crore of the project, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) would be bearing 50% while the remaining would be contributed by Visakhapatnam Metro Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and under the PPP partnership model.
Three routes had been identified in Vizag to operate the light metro here. While the first route is expected to be from Gajuwaka to Kommadi, the remaining two metro lines would be constructed along the routes of Gurudwara-Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem-Chinna Waltair respectively.
