Solar Panels to light up Visakhapatnam Railway Station

The Vizag Railway Station is all set to function completely in solar power, following in the footsteps of Visakhapatnam Port Trust. Vizag Railway Station will be the first railway station in the East Coast Railway division to install roof top solar panels.  The offices of Divisional Railway Manager, Railway Hospital, New Coaching Complex, Diesel and electrical Loco sheds will also follow the lead.

These solar panels will generate up to 1MW at peak.  The engineering, designing, installing and testing will be dealt by the developer. The entire cost of the project is estimated around Rs. 8 crore. The APEPDCL is charging Rs. 7 per unit and the estimated savings after the installation of the solar panels is around Rs. 20 lakhs. The finalization of the project will be done around September and the operation of solar power could be expected by January or February, 2017.

Another achievement for the Vizag railway station is the installment of 2 lifts by the first week of August. The capacity of each lift is 500 kgs.
