Slag yard collapses in Vizag Steel Plant

Vizag Steel Plant witnessed tense moments when the slag yard of Melt Shop-I collapsed. The slag yard, which was constructed at the commissioning of the steel plant, crashed in the early hours of Monday. No casualties were reported at the mishap.

While the reason for the slag yard’s collapse wasn’t known immediately, the production was said to be unaffected. The slag generated in the steel making process is used by cement and brick making units.

A probe has been ordered to find out the reason that led to the accident. Remedial measures have also been sorted for the prevention of such mishaps in future.

An official said that a similar incident had occurred in 2013 and blamed the negligence of the concerned personnel and unsafe conditions for the reoccurrence of the incident.
