SIIMA Award Winner 2017 - Ankith Koyya
Vizagite Ankith Koyya recently won a SIIMA Award for his work in the short film ‘Yedhane Vadili Vellipomake’. Yo! Vizag interacted with the actor to find out more.
Ankith is a BTech third year student from GITAM University who has always been passionate about acting. He was once a part of GITAM’s dramatic club ‘Faces’ and took part in various street plays over a span of two years. But soon, he felt the need to move on and explore his growth as an artiste.
He soon got a call from a Casting Director for shooting an OLX ad with Allu Arjun in Mumbai. “Allu Arjun sir approved me for the ad as he believed I look like his brother,” he laughs. While he starred in the ad only for a few seconds, it nonetheless opened doors for the actor.
It wasn’t long before he was approached by Director Srikanth Sri for the 42 minutes long short film that won him the award. When asked about how he feels to have won the Best Supporting Actor at SIIMA, he says, “I will forever be grateful to the team of ‘Yedhane Vadili Vellipomake’ for giving me the opportunity. But I believe the journey of making the film is more important for an actor than the output. This is how I want to live all my life, with makeup on, in front of the camera, hearing the words action and cut.”
Ankith is now shooting for a full length feature film titled ‘Ala’. The story is based in Vizag and is looking for a September release. Yo! Vizag wishes him all the best for his future endeavours.
