Sexual harassment charges on faculty of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam

In a shocking and shameful disclosure, a well known faculty of Andhra University has had charges of sexual harassment leveled  against him. Visakhapatnam students have erupted at this news.

The prestigious Andhra University of Visakhapatnam is mired in controversy as a faculty has been accused of sexual harassment. He is the HoD of Sanskrit Department, K Yedukondalu. The students of Sanskrit department have brought out the charges against him. The same incident had happened 3 years back and an investigation was done. He had been removed fro the HoD post then. It was recently that he was reinstated.

The students have alleged that he makes vulgar remarks in the classroom and makes girl students sit in the front row deliberately. For explanations and classroom teachings, the students have alleged that the faculty uses statements with double meanings and expletives. For assignments he always insists on private audience in his cabin. In private he verbally abuses the students. as reported by The New Indian Express  – ” Everytime he utters ‘I Love You’ or ‘I Like You’ , mentioning, a particular students name, he expects a similar reply from them in the classroom.

Other charges –

• Shielding research scholar who made sexual advances on a female student.
• ‘Promising work in films using contacts in exchange for sexual favours’ – as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

The University has set up a committee to look into the matter with alacrity and ensure that the guilty do know go without punishment.The news of such happenings in such a respected institution and the mental trauma that the students must have been subjected to comes as a major shocker.
