Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who visited Vizag as part of the commentary team, heaped praise on the city. Calling the city clean and well-organised, Manjrekar shared his views for the Swacch Visakha campaign by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
“The first time I came, it was as a player. When I came as a commentator, there was a big change in the way the city looked. It is one of the very few cities in India that looks organised, everything is properly structured, clean even at peak time in the evening. When you’re at the beach and look at the pavement, everything is clean; there are people cleaning the roads regularly. That doesn’t happen elsewhere in India as much as it happens in Vizag. Really happy for this city. I look forward for a visit to Visakhapatnam,” Sanjay Manjrekar is seen saying in a video posted by the GVMC on Twitter.
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, ace commentator Harsha Bhogle, former India cricketer Venugopal Rao, and Indian team supporter Sudheer Kumar Gautam were among others who pledged support to Vizag during the ODI between India and West Indies on Wednesday.
Coming to the game, the hosts looked in top form as they thrashed the visitors by a margin of 107 runs to square the series 1-1. Star batsman Rohit Sharma was adjudged the man of the match for his superlative knock of 159 that played a key role in helping India amass a match-winning total.
