In what came as a shocking sight to many devotees at the Sri Kumarakottam temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, a Russian tourist was seen begging for alms at the temple’s entrance. The locals were surprised to seek a sight of a begging foreigner and immediately informed the police. After investigating the foreigner, the police informed the media that the man in question was a tourist from Russia, and has been identified as Evangelin.
As per a report in The Hindu
, Evangelin arrived in India on September 24th and came to Kancheepuram on Tuesday morning from Chennai. The police said that he had all the travel documents including visa that was valid until next month. Eventually, the officers helped him with some money to travel to Chennai.Evangelin (24) found himself in a fix when he could not withdraw money using his ATM card as its OIN was locked. Left with no option, the tourist decided to seek alms outside the temple.
After knowing about this matter, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, has come to the aid of the foreigner. She informed through her Twitter account that the officials in Chennai will take care of him.
