Raped Girls Refuse To Compromise
Two tribal girls were shockingly raped by eight men in Visakhapatnam district. The girls somehow managed to reach home after the rape to inform their parents. When the parents reached out to the village elders for a solution, the elders asked the men to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation instead of lodging a complaint.
A mandal elected representative (TDP MPTC) and head constable’s sons were amongst the eight to commit this heinous crime. The girls in a bold move, refused to accept the compensation and urged their parents to lodge a complaint with the police. The police in Chintapalli have booked a case against the eight under the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act and Rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The incident that took place on Saturday night only came to light on Monday after the girls found the courage to say no to the solution offered by the elders. The two girls, along with their male relatives, went to the jatara at Tajangi village and on their way back took shelter under a closed shop. The eight men misbehaved with the girls, beat the men and drove them away when they tried to stop them.
Few social organisations have also gotten wind of the incident and helped the girls with lodging the complaint. The girls are being sent for medical examination, and teams have been formed to book all the eight accused. The girls will now be paid compensation as per government norms after justice is done.
