‘Rani Rashmoni’, the last ship of the five Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) project has been commissioned into the Indian Coast Gaurd(ICG) from Vizag on Monday.
Additional Director General of Coast Gaurd, VSR Murthy, termed the FPVs as the workhorse of the ICG. The other four IPVs, ICGS Rani Abbakka, ICGS Rani Avanti Bai, ICGS Rani Durgavati and ICGS Rani Gaidinliu, have been commissioned earlier and are on service in different locations on the eastern seaboard.
.Propelled by three MTU 4000 series engines of 2720 capacity each, the 51 meters ship is coupled with Rolls Royce Kamewa jets. It is also equipped with advanced sensors and state-of-the-art equipment.
The ship has the ability to perform multi-tasks such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue, anti-smuggling and anti-poaching operations. Advanced level of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) which would help in carrying out search and rescue operations is found in the ship. Also, Integrated Bridge System (IBS), Machinery Control System, Infra-red Communication System and one CRN 91 Naval Gun along with its fire control system are included in Rani Rashmoni.
The Rashmoni would be having a manpower of 34 men and would be commanded by Navdeep Safaya. Vizag would be its base.
Mr. Murthy complimented Hindustan Shipyard Limited(HSL) and CMD of HSL, Admiral LVS Babu. He said that the shipyard has done a magnificent job in overall weight reduction and achieving a contractual speed of 34 knots.
