The BJP, on Thursday, announced candidates for two Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. While the party’s state unit President Kanna Lakshminarayana will enter the fray from Narsaraopet, Daggubati Purandeswari has been named as the party’s candidate to contest for the Lok Sabha seat from Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam sitting MP, K.Haribabu, has not been re-nominated as he chose not to contest the elections once again, reports claimed. Taking the field in alliance with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2014, BJP’s Haribabu scored an impressive victory over YSRCP’s Y.S. Vijayamma.
Purandeswari, who is the daughter of TDP founder and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N.T. Rama Rao, was earlier elected as an MP from Visakhapatnam in 2009 when she contested on a ticket from Congress. She had contested the elections in 2014, in alliance with TDP, from Rajampeta. However, the BJP leader lost the battle to YSRCP’s P.V. Midhun Reddy.
The upcoming elections will be witnessing Purandeswari battle it out notably against VV Lakshmi Narayana of Janasena Party, Sri Bharat of TDP, and MVV Satyanarayana of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), among others. Andhra Pradesh is slated to go for polls on 11 April.
