Plastic recycling plant to come up in Vizag

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is in a forethought to setup a plastic recycling plant this year. This plant will be the first environment friendly project of the civic body in 2017.

The tenders are likely to be invited in January after the corporation prepares the project report. The plant will supposedly come up in Kapuluppada.

Reportedly, GVMC is using plastic as binding material to lay roads. Roads are likely to be laid in 10 localities in the city at a stretch of 2 km at a cost of Rs 90 lakh. The roads being developed include one at Papayyapalem and one at Vidya Nagar.

Nearly 1,000 metric tonnes of waste is generated daily in the city and most of it is plastic. 20 percent of the recycled plastic in plants goes waste. GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan reportedly said, “This plastic which cannot be recycled can be used for laying roads.”

This project is to reduce the threat to the environment because of growing plastic waste in city.
