Development of new port at Vodarevu in Andhra Pradesh has been promised by the Union Shipping Minister, Nitin Gadkari.
Gadkari said that a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) would be formed for the establishment and it would be developed on a 3,000-acre land.
“There was an offer earlier from the CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu regarding setting up of a major port at Vodarevu. There are some problems but the AP government has assured that they will take up responsibility and resolve the issues of land and permissions,” he said.
The Minister said that as the city surrounds the port in Visakhapatnam, it is little difficult to expand Visakhapatnam Port.
Earlier, at Vodarevu in Prakasam district, an industrial corridor was planned during Congress rule and was reportedly cancelled later.
“We would need about 3,000 acres of land in Vodarevu and we have decided to send the proposal to the CM today. We can form a Special Purpose Vehicle in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government and can develop it in the state,” Gadkari said.
The Union Minister also mentioned, “Under the Sagarmala project, we can have industrial development at Vodarevu which would be led by the port. It can become a growth engine for the people of Andhra Pradesh.”
