Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) has implemented an innovative system of receiving real-time data on power supply from every feeder. Called RTDAS (Real-Time Data Acquisition System), it comes under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and will be put into use at all the five AP districts that are under APEPDCL, including Visakhapatnam.
This system was inaugurated by the APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), K Santhosha Rao on Friday, at a ceremony in Visakhapatnam. During the event, Mr. Rao shared that the RTDAS project had been sanctioned in December 2018 and was completed last month. The project took a cost of Rs. 4.8 crore. He revealed that RTDAS has been currently implemented at 116 sub-stations of 33/11kV capacity and 437 feeders of 11 kV capacity, catering to 36 towns in the state under the IPDS.
With the RTDAS system, APEPDCL management in Visakhapatnam will be able to know the running status of the power supply at any feeder of the company. All they would need to do is look at the RTDAS dashboard. The system will provide real-time data like voltage, current, power and any power interruptions
at the feeders. This will help the management in quickly addressing an issue when it arises. It will also assist in quick energy auditing of the company.During the inauguration ceremony, APEPDCL CMD has stated that with this system, uninterrupted power supply at Visakhapatnam and the other four districts under the company is a possibility. The event was being organised as part of the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in the city.
