Three public parks are on the list of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation(GVMC) for construction in various zones located in the city. The parks would be developed with about Rs 6 crores.
To be located in the heart of Visakhapatnam, Swatantra Nagar Park in Zone I, Satyanagar Park in Zone VI and HB Colony Park in Gajuwaka Zone would comprise a better leisure and bigger area.
The Swatantranagar Park would be constructed with Rs 1.94 crore in 3.25 acres, H B Colony Park with Rs 1.98 crore in 4.72 acres and Satyanagar Park with Rs 1.12 crore in 1.1 acres.
The officials would be working on plans of including play areas, gardens, walkways, multi-utility play equipment, etc. The development and maintenance responsibilities would be under GVMC.
GVMC Municipal Commissioner, M Hari Narayanan, said, “These parks are being developed in areas that have no big parks maintained by the VUDA or the GVMC.”
Major space in the H B Colony Park which is the largest of the three proposed ones would be allocated for play activities and would also constitute a water body with fountain. Since the Park is at tender stage, commencement of the works would be a little late. The other two parks are in the final tender stage and the general funds would be provided by GVMC.
In the 2017-18 financial year, GVMC has developed 13 colony parks partnering with private sectors. The officials are looking forward to setting up another 26 this financial year, while the Resident Welfare Associations would be bearing one-third of the expenditure.
