NAD flyover works in Vizag being carried out as per schedule

VUDA Vice-Chairman, P. Basanth Kumar, informed that the works on the much-awaited NAD flyover, in Vizag, are being carried out as per the schedule. Mr. Kumar further added that while there is no obstruction to the traffic in the area currently, the routes might be diverted in the third and fourth phases of the project. It has been learned that the material required for the construction of the bridge has been readied as well.

Earlier, the officials had cleared out a few dividers at strategic locations and had also arranged barricades to facilitate a smoother conductance of the project.

The project is being handled by M/s. Vijay Nirman Company Private Ltd. Experts from NIT Warangal too will be lending their suggestions to the design.

The NAD flyover had its foundation stone laid by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu earlier.

Coming to the design of the flyover, once constructed, it would consist of three different layers which would facilitate separate passages for different categories of vehicles. The proposed design also suggests there would be walkways for pedestrians and a recreational park at the centre.

EASING OUT TRAFFIC CONGESTION

The NAD junction is one of the prime centres in Vizag and faces traffic related issues throughout the day. A busy junction, which is a part of NH5, that is well connected to the airport and other prominent locales in the city, this place requires better management of the traffic congestion and the upcoming NAD flyover is deemed to do the same.

The project, which was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore, is expected to be completed by November 2019.

Major talking points of NAD flyover

  • Budget 113 crores in EPC mode.
  • 6-lane under passage rotary separator type-3 level flyover for Visakhapatnam.
  • Two levels with 3 lanes on the first level and 4 lanes on the second level.
  • 10, 000 passenger cars and 1,00, 000 people will be what the project serves.
  • Additional service roads on all four sides and approach roads and amps to be developed.
  • Pedestrian walkways, landscaping, bus stops, footpaths to be developed as well.
