New Liquor Policy From Next Fiscal Year

The prohibition and excise commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the government is taking measures on implementing the new liquor policy from the forthcoming fiscal year. This plan of action includes all the bars and liquor shops having CCTV cameras installed before having them for auction.

This implementation of CCTVs and barcode machines will have a check on the sales of liquor. However, this is going to be implemented from July as some of the shops are yet to be computerized. The excise department is also trying to take certain measures with regards to stop belt shops. This financial year, nearly 8000 persons have been arrested operating such outlets.

In order to reduce this belt shops menace, the state government is bringing a new Act which would control the maximum retail price. Under this Act, those being arrested for this cause will not be bailed. The fine for selling the liquor at a higher price than the maximum retail price will see a hike from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Having being arrested more than three times for the same offence the shop’s license would be cancelled.

Apart from this the commissioner mentioned that the government has allotted Rs 1.5 crore for conducting awareness workshops on illegal liquor and its bad effects every month. This has been told at the Police Training College during the passing out parade of 156 women constables.
