State-level Residential ITI to Come Up in Vizag

To meet the industrial needs, a state-level industrial training institute – ITI – will be set up in the port city with an initial intake of around 1,000 students in 17 trades. The institute will have the most advanced trades with a skill development center. The ITI will be a residential one, mostly to come in Atchutapuram.

According to the industrial employment statistics, there should be four supervisors and 17 tradesmen over one engineer in an industrial sector. Reportedly, this ratio between the engineers, supervisors and tradesmen was badly disturbed in past few years with large number of engineer graduates coming out every year. At present there are around 300 engineering colleges in the state.

However, with no increase in the number of ITIs in the government sector it has become very difficult to train the tradesmen with the new trends in the industrial development and augmentation. The government ITIs which have been fully equipped are training tradesmen in a limited number. With the new industrial policy, the state government is expecting new industries to come up in a couple of years.

Reportedly M Gurunadheswara Rao, the regional deputy director, department of Employment and Training said’ “The new residential ITI has proposed to set up in an extent of 15 acres with an estimated cost of `13 crore. We have sent the proposals with an intake of 1,050 students in 17 trades. The proposal is pending with the government for approval.”

We do not want to set up a regular ITI. The proposed ITI will be established with a skill development centre and a startup village also. The government will discuss with industries on HR needs to develop the trainees to ensure placement,” added a senior official.
