Irish Coffee

For each serving, you will need:

  • 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 6 ounces strong, hot, brewed coffee (1½ teaspoons instant coffee powder in 1 cup hot water)
  • 2 tablespoons whipped cream

Mix the coffee and brown sugar. Pour whiskey into the bottom of a warmed coffee mug and top with the coffee mixture. Gently spoon the whipped cream over the top of the hot coffee mixture. Do not stir! Serve immediately. Sip the coffee through the cream layer on the top. Also, keep napkins or tissues at hand to wipe off the cream ‘moustaches’!

According to the original method, one should use actual heavy cream that is whipped to the perfect consistency and poured in just the right way to get it to float on top. That way, you get the coolness of the cream and the hot of the coffee… true Irish Coffee!
