India’s First Medical Devices Manufacturing Park To Be Set Up in Vizag

The Andhra Pradesh Medical Technology Zone (AMTZ), the first medical devices manufacturing park in the country to be established at Nadupur village of Pedda Gantyada Mandal (Vizag). This project is a brainchild of our honorable Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who laid the foundation stone for the AMTZ park on August 19, 2016.

The project has been allocated 270 acres of land along with a special purpose vehicle. Ever since the AMTZ project was revealed to investors on October 2, 2016; there been a rise in the number of booking, coming from over 40 companies. The park expects to set up 200-300 units, providing jobs to around 25,000 persons, entailing an investment of around Rs. 30,000 crores.

Stressing on the importance of cost-effective healthcare, Mr. Naidu said, “We in India produce cheap drugs not only for ourselves, but for the world as well, but medical devices are still costly as they have to be imported. Therefore, the importance of the park cannot be overemphasized.”

As part of the ‘Make in India’ program, the importance given to encourage medical devices within the country in the general budget for 2017-18 would go a long way in reducing the cost of healthcare,” said V. Muralikrishna, managing director of Mahatma Gandhi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

The AP MedTech Zone recently signed a MoU with the Quality Council of India, meeting the global standards in medical device manufacturing. The facility is expected to be operational by next year, fully equipped with electromagnetic interference, low vacuum, toxicity, radiation, and rapid photo-typing testing laboratories.
