FIR lodged against Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami after wife files complaint

Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami and four other members of his family have been charged by Kolkata police after the fast bowler’s wife Hasin Jahan lodged a complaint. The police have charged the accused with IPC sections related to rape, domestic violence and causing hurt with poison, it has been reported. Hasin Jahan alleged that she was raped by her husband’s brother, Hasib Ahmad, when she had visited her in-law’s place in Uttar Pradesh last year.

The Indian pacer has been charged under sections 498A (domestic violence), 323 (Causing hurt), 307 (Attempt to murder), 376 (Punishment for rape), 506 (Criminal intimidation),  328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence.), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.

Mohammad Shami, who has emerged as one of the leading bowlers of the Indian pace attack, found himself amidst the controversy after his wife recently alleged that he had extramarital affairs with other women and even shared screenshots of his alleged conversations with them.

The 27-year-old cricketer, on the other hand, stood firm claiming that the allegations made against him are false and baseless. “The current allegations against me are completely false and are a part of a conspiracy aimed to defame me,” Shami said on Twitter.

“According to me, this is a well thought out conspiracy against me. I want to remain just as normal as you’ve always seen me. On Holi and every other festival, I’ve been with my family. Spent time with my daughter and wife. Even after my wife was trolled so much in the past I stood by her. And I would like to stand by her today as well,” the Indian cricketer told news agency ANI.

Mohammad Shami made his debut for India in 2013. The man quickly rose up the ranks and played crucial roles in handing over many memorable victories to team India.
