The cricketers from India and West Indies had to face the brunt of the protests that took place in Vizag on Thursday. Staged by the agitated supporters and members of the YSRCP, the protests condemned the attack on opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy at the Vizag airport.
To show their resentment, the protestors took to the city’s National Highway, which paved the way to the cricket teams’ route to the airport. Reportedly, the buses of the Indian and West Indies cricket teams were stopped on the way by the protestors. The cricketers were made to wait in the bus before the police sweated it out to bring the YSRCP supporters under control clear the route. Eventually, the teams were taken to the airport through the old terminal.
As a part of the ongoing ODI series, the Indian cricket team had locked horns with Windies in Vizag on Wednesday. The thrilling encounter proved to be an eye-feast for the fans as Virat Kohli scored a scintillating century and went past the 10,000 runs landmark in the process.
YSR Congress Party Chief, YS Jagan, was attacked with a knife at the Vizag airport on Thursday. The attack left the politician with an injury to his left shoulder.
The attacker, identified as Srinivas from East Godavari district, a worker at the airport, attacked Jagan after asking him for a selfie. When Srinivas tried to attack Jagan for the second time, he was overpowered by the people surrounding the leader.
After taking the first-aid at the airport, the politician flew to Hyderabad, where he was admitted to a hospital for further treatment.
