Indian woman cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur joins Punjab Police as DSP

Popular Indian woman cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, on Thursday, joined Punjab Police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora pinned stars on the cricketer’s uniform at the Chief Minister’s residence.

“Excited about joining Punjab Police India as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh

Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also Piyush Goyal Ji for your help in the matter,” Harmanpreet Kaur said in her post on social media.

“Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her,” Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted.

Harmanpreet, who was earlier working with the Indian Railways, was relieved from her duties after she requested to join the Punjab Police. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh took up the matter with Indian Railways in order to waive off the bond barrier which stated that if the bond period of 5 years is broken, the individual would have to return the salary of five years.

Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2017. She is world-renowned for her prowess with both bat and ball and played a crucial role in helping India reach the final of the Women’s World Cup held last year. Thanks to her flamboyance with the bat, the Cricketer was also signed by the Australian Big Bash team Sydney Thunder a few years ago.
