Visakhapatnam is all set to feature yet another indoor sports arena, as proposed by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
Estimated to cost around Rs 20 crores, GVMC has proposed a plan of developing a sports arena covering around 4776 sq meters of area in MVP Colony.The stadium would be a part of Smart Cities Mission and all the latest indoor sports amenities would be equipped in it, the officials say.
The project is a joint venture undertaken by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and GVMC. VUDA allocated Rs 3 crores for the arena in its recent budget. The area outside the sports arena would comprise of an open gym, swimming pool, jogging track, kids pool, play area, kids play area, etc and would also be equipped with volleyball, badminton and basketball courts.The external development area would sprawl over 3,323 square meters and the arena building would be constructed on an area of 4181 sq meters.
GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan said that the sports arena will be developed under the scheme of “A Resilient and Healthy metropolis for the people” and also mentioned that VUDA has allowed GVMC to construct it in their land.
