GVMC Commissioner issues norms to maintain hygiene in Visakhapatnam

GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan, on Monday, reviewed Akkayyapalem and Dondaparthy areas of Wards 12 and 15 in Visakhapatnam. Making suggestions enhance the state of hygiene in the locales, Mr Narayanan emphasised the need to work dedicatedly to ensure cleanliness.

The GVMC Commissioner further warned that fines would be imposed if any activities are found to be potentially harmful to public health. While those urinating in the open were slapped with a fine of Rs 500, a few shops were penalised for not getting rid of the garbage and filth in their surroundings. Reportedly, these shops were fined Rs 10,000 each.

Hari Narayanan also passed orders that plastic bags lesser than 0.50 microns thickness must not be used. Informing that each shop and vendor must have a garbage bin, the Commissioner instructed that provision should be made to segregate dry and wet wastes. He also asked people to refrain from pasting wall posters at public places in Visakhapatnam.

Zone 2 Zonal Commissioner P Nallanayya, EE Venkat, ACP Naidu, Sanitary Inspectors Srinivas and Krishnamurthy were also present with the GVMC Commissioner during his review on Monday.

It may be recalled that GVMC had earlier passed a resolution to penalise public urination in the city. It was reported the first violation would be charged Rs 500 while the second and third ones would be penalised for Rs 750 and Rs 1000 respectively.
