The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet, which met on 10 October, approved the establishment of three data centres in Visakhapatnam with Rs. 87,000 crore. These centres are Google’s data centre cluster planned at Adavivaram, Tharluvada, and Rambilli villages, the TCS proposed data centre, and the Sify Technologies facility.
According to Minister Parthasarathi, who briefed the Cabinet decisions to the media, the Cabinet also okayed the allotment of 400 acres in Visakhapatnam for the proposed Google data centre.
The Google project is said to be Asia’s largest data centre cluster.
The proposal to set up a pumped storage project in Vizianagaram district was also approved by the Cabinet.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who chaired the meeting, said: “Visakhapatnam is developing on the lines of Mumbai. With IT giants like Google and TCS expressing their willingness to open their centres in the city, it is set to transform into an IT hub.”
