Civil Services, Humanities and Languages Courses at GITAM University

In India many have begun to turn to humanities, arts, languages and social sciences as an avenue for the all-round development of the individual and society as well as exciting career opportunities. The GITAM School of Gandhian Studies (GSGS), inspired by Gandhian thought, offers a number of specialised humanities and languages programmes, bringing together scholars from across the world and a team of committed faculty. The school currently offers the following programmes, the admissions for which are now open.

B.A. Social Science (Honours) with Civil Service Orientation

Based on the Indian Civil Services syllabus, this innovative 4 years honours course provides the foundation to specialise in the most relevant social sciences and humanities disciplines like Politics, Gandhian Thought, History, Sociology, Philosphy, Economics, English, Psychology, Social work, Public Administration or Education. Students can opt for graduation at end of three years. 

Career Opportunities

Along with Civil Services, one can choose careers in research, academics, development sector/ NGOs, Social Entrepreneurship or even work with multilateral agencies such as the UNO, WHO, ILO etc.

Eligibility

Candidates with 10+2/Intermediate with minimum 60% marks are eligible.

MA (Applied Psychology)

Offering an exposure in varied domains of applied psychology, viz., social, cognitive, clinical and Indian psychology, this course prepares students for a career in the line. GSGS students have the track record of being suitably placed in prestigious hospitals like NIMS and Navy Hospital, or are working as school/college/helpline counselors.

Career Opportunities

Can work as Psychological Counselors at general hospitals and clinics, as Psychologists at super-speciality mental health clinics and industries, as Guidance Counsellors at educational institutions, teachers or as researchers at Universitities and colleges or as private practicioners. Other areas include Rehabilitation and Special Education Centres, NGOs and advertising/ sport/ recruitment verticals.

Eligibility

Graduation in any stream with minimum 50% marks and proficiency in English. 

MA (English Language and Literature)

Career-oriented, interdisciplinary, and with a global outlook, this course offers intensive modules in English language and linguistics, Professional English, English language teaching, British and American literatures, Commonwealth, Post-Colonial and Indian literatures, Technical writing, Editing and Publishing.

Career Opportunities

The practical exposure to teaching, research, media and corporate careers, helps for attractive careers as Teachers, Executives, Language experts, Researchers and Trainers in communication, linguistics and literature for government and private agencies. Can also work as Writers, Translators, Editors for publishing houses, academic organisations, media and NGOs. Careers in HR training, event management, oratory and public speaking are possible too.

Eligibility

Graduation in any stream with minimum 50% marks and proficiency in English. 

Other courses

GSGS also offers a one year Civil Services Preparatory Programme and three month certificate courses in Psychometrics, Professional English, Soft Skills, Yoga, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Hindi and Sanskrit.

Eligibility

Intermediate or 10+2 for all the above courses.

GSGS is an institute of GITAM University, Visakhapatnam which is a MHRD Category-I University and has been recently accredited with NAAC A+ grade.
