Eight mega food processing parks will be set up in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema districts. The state government is looking forward to do so with the aim of transforming the topography of the districts.
The areas that fall under these districts are economically backward compared to rest of the state. The government therefore believes they need the support for economic development to take place. Andhra Pradesh is known for its abundance of aqua produce, fruits and agro-based products.
For proper utilisation of these products and to generate employment, the state government has decided to promote food processing industries. Five of the proposed eight food processing parks will come up in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari. The three other parks are planned to be set up in Rayalaseema in Chittoor, Kurnool and Anantapur.
The information about the same was recently relayed at the budget presentation for 2017-18 in Velagapudi yesterday. The information was disseminated by Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. He further stated that agriculture and allied sectors have shown great growth during the financial year of 2016-17, with a grown rate of 14.03 % they have strengthened the economy. Fisheries showed a growth of 30.09%, livestock of 12.18 % and horticulture of 16.79 %.
