The fisherwomen collective from Mangamaripeta has come together for a venture that is one of its kind. In a bid to promote marine products in the city, a Fish Nutri Cart has been launched by these women, with the inaugural done by District Collector Pravin Kumar. The food truck that costed Rs 15.5 lakh is run by these fisherwomen with the help of Small Scale Fisheries Producer Company Limited.

The Fish Nutri Cart food truck will be stationed at the Beach Road from 02:30 PM – 09:30 PM in the upcoming days & will have a variety of marine products that include mackerel, shrimp, shear fish and anchovies. Upon its launch, the fisherwomen also plan on introducing other products like cutlets and pickles.

These fisherwomen drew attention from District Collector, Pravin Kumar, when they had showcased their wares at the Visakha Utsav. He had consequently sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the project with the Fisherfolk Foundation contributing the remaining Rs 5.5 lakh.

Arjilli Dasu of Fisherfolk Foundation told TOI, “Six women will be running the nutri cart and everyday it will be open from 2.30 pm to around 9.30 pm near Beach Road. We are initially looking to serve fish fry products along with prawn pakoda and fish kurkure to customers. Later on we will be expanding on the products. The fisherwomen from Mangamaripeta had earlier participated in the Visakha Utsav following which the district collector sanctioned this project
