ECoR to install 70 CCTV cameras to boost security at Visakhapatnam railway station

On Tuesday, East Coast Railway’s (ECoR) Railway Protection Force (RPF) Inspector General (IG), Raja Ram visited Visakhapatnam to review the safety and security of the railway operations. Speaking to the media, the Inspector General said that a total of 70 IP-based Close Circuit Television cameras (CCTV cameras) would be installed at Visakhapatnam railway station

, to keep a tab on all the activities at the station premises round the clock,

“The CCTV cameras will be connected through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), which facilitates the facial detection, and informs regarding the criminal record of the suspect. Furthermore, these television cameras will capture and display live feed, on multiple screens at the Railway Protection Force (RPF) control room. This surveillance system will also be upgraded at Vizianagaram, Rayagada, and Srikakulam railway stations, using the Nirbhaya fund, for ensuring better safety, especially for women”, he further added.

Apart from this, a cyber lab will be established at ECoR headquarters at Bhubaneswar, by the end of the fiscal year. This lab will undertake cybercrime cases such as ticket fraud and hacking of security system.

The RPF has been taking measures to curb the smuggling of ganja, human trafficking and other illegal activities, which are carried out in trains. The RPF officials informed that in case of noticing suspicious actions, passengers could report to the railway authorities, by dialling 182.
