It is a known fact that the pollution in the city is on the rise and the need of the hour is to adopt newer technologies and measures so as to avoid further repercussions.
These rickshaws have the potential to run for as many as 100 km after being charged for 7 hours. The fact that it just costs around Rs 20 for this specified charge, might encourage many individuals to adopt this mode of transport. Another incentive that is being offered by the officials to promote e-rickshaws is that there would be no need for registration or a license to ride these eco-friendly carriers. It has also been informed that these vehicles will be priced between Rs 1.30 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh.
While some can be used to carry passengers, others can be utilised to transport garbage or goods. In order to spread awareness among the people, some e-rickshaws glided past the beach road recently.
Many residents of Visakhapatnam have hailed this move by the GVMC. They hope that this would do some bit in keeping the pollution in check.
