Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized gold worth Rs 1.08 crores at Visakhapatnam railway station on Tuesday. Acting on a special tip-off, the officials intercepted two individuals in Train No. 12514 Guwahati-Secunderabad Express at the city’s railway station.

As informed by DRI officials, the accused were carrying the gold concealed in specially designed packets of the cotton vests worn by them. The total weight of the smuggled gold was reported to be 3314 grams, valued at Rs 1.08 crores. The gold has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

Valued at close to Rs 63 lakhs, Rs 1.60 lakhs were stated as the sale proceeds of smuggled gold seized under the provisions of The Customs Act, 1962.
