As part of three transfer orders issued by the Andhra Pradesh State Government on Saturday, a new commissioner has been appointed to the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Dr. G Lakshmisha IAS is to take over as the new GVMC Commissioner. A Government Order (GO), to this effect, was issued by Chief Secretary to the Andhra Pradesh State Government, Sameer Sharma IAS, on Saturday.
The outgoing GVMC Commissioner, G Srijana IAS, has been transferred as the new Director of Industries, Commerce & Export Promotion. She will be replacing JVN Subramanyam IAS, who has been appointed as the Vice-Chairman cum Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).
As per the GO, East Godavari Joint Collector (Villages and Ward Secretariats) Kirthi Chekuri IAS will take over as the full Joint Collector of the district.
About Dr. G Lakshmisha IAS
Prior to his appointment as the new GVMC Commissioner, Dr. G Lakshmisha IAS has served as the Joint Collector, and Additional District Magistrate, of the East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh for more than two years. He has also been the Project Director of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) at Parvathipuram. He is a 2013 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh.
The tenure of G Srijana IAS
In a tenure of more than two years as the GVMC Commissioner, G Srijana IAS was particularly praised for returning to work 22 days into her maternity leave, as the city grappled with the Covid-19 pandemic last year. Under her command, GVMC received the ‘Water Plus’ certification while she also raised staff attendance at the GVMC office. However, her association with Vizag spans more than 5 years, having served as the Joint Collector of the Visakhapatnam District in the past.
