The Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh has come forward to undertake developments of temple gardens and tourism spots in the state.
Under Haritha Andhra Pradesh Mission, temple spots at Annavaram in East Godavari; Boyakonda in Chittoor; Dwaraka Tirumala in West Godavari; Kotappakonda and Mangalagiri in Guntur; Jyothi in Kadapa’ Mahanandi, Ahobilam and Srisailam in Kurnool; and Thimmamma Marrimanu in Anantapur district are the ones chosen for the development of gardens.
Telineelapuram and Sunnapugadda in Srikakulam district, Donkarayi in East Godavari, Bhairavakona and Diguvametta in Prakasam and Naniyala in Chittoor are the proposed tourism spots for the development.
The whole project would be at a cost of Rs 10 Crore.
Also, a zoological park and botanical garden at Rs 10 Crore in Amaravati has been added to the proposal. Rs 5 crore has been proposed for protecting shark whales, fishing cats, and mangroves.
The department has also involved in digging 9,350 km of contour trenches, building 67 check-dams and established 3,190 km of elephant-proof trenches for the conservation of forests.
The forest cover in the State has increased by 2,140 sq. km., standing as the top state of all in the country.
Under the scheme of ‘Nagara Vanam’, green spaces at a cost of Rs 25 Crore would be developed at Saripalli in Vizianagaram district, Visakhapatnam, Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada, Kondaveedu in Guntur district, Naidupet in Nellore, Rayadurgam, Puttaparthi and Kalyanadurgam in Anantapur; and Horsley Hills in Chittoor.
