The depression over the Bay of Bengal is being expected to magnify into a cyclone, thereby causing downpours in the city. Heavy rainfall, rough sea, and strong winds are likely to persist for the next 48 hours.

It has been learned that the depression is currently travelling towards the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Southern Odisha.

“There are chances of the depression to change into a cyclone. As of now, it is in the form of a deep depression at 290 kms in the South East, away from Kalingapatnam,” an official said.

The official mentioned about the intensification and further added, ” moderate winds and rainfall activity would be witnessed in the evening.”

“The wind speed is expected to be more than 60-70km/hr”, he said.

In addition to issuing the prerequisite warnings, the officials have also alerted the fishermen from not venturing into the sea.
