Cleanliness – How Clean Do We Keep Our City?

Do you realise the impact you have on your surroundings? If you don’t, please continue reading.

If you are aware and know most of the impact you cause is negative, you are a person who cares extremely about the eco-system, admire nature and protect your surroundings, you are terrific! Yet, you can continue reading too.

Most of us simply do not have the time to make a positive impact on the environment, even if we do, we take it for granted and instead keep complaining about the authorities’ incapability to keep the city clean. These days, a lot of health concious people throng the beach road and take morning walks, cycle and bring along their pets for a walk. It’s amazing that you are health conscious, but how far are we conscious about our surroundings?

It is evidently seen that the beach road is littered in spite of the GVMC placing dustbins all along the road. But I dispose of waste in the dustbins you say. Yet, because the dustbins lack lids, the crows pick among the waste and litter everywhere. Now that’s definitely something for the authorities to look over. But, this doesn’t end here.

A lot of people who bring their dogs for morning and evening walks do not bring along dog waste pick-up tools or bags. The dogs defecate in pubic places creating a lot of foul. Now, it is very easy to blame the authorities and ironically these will be the people sipping their morning chai and complaining about cleanliness while leaving their dog feces everywhere. Hello kettle, meet pot. Isn’t it your basic responsibility to take care of things that are doable?

Step 1: Dog defecates

Step 2: Pick up dog waste with a tool or bag

Step 3: Throw waste into one of the many dustbins by the beach road

See, it’s easy peasy lemon squeesy.

Cleanliness is the fundamental responsibility of all the citizens. If we don’t work for the well being of ourselves, what right do we have to complain about others’ responsibilities?

P.S: Tree guards are there to fulfill their namely function, not serve as your personal dustbin.

P.P.S: Look through the gallery below for evidence on how well you treat your city.
