Chess Master From Vizag, Sahithi Varshini

Everyone knows that a game of chess can either be finished quickly or carry on longer than a test match! It is a game of skill, planning and of course strategy. Many adults actually find this a difficult game to keep up with. However, this is not true for little M. Sahithi Varshini, the little chess master from Vizag.

She has done our city proud by winning the silver medal in the National Under-9 Chess Championship held at Jalandhar yesterday. Sahithi finished as a runner-up to B. Savitha Sri of Tamil Nadu. She has also become the first girl from the region to win the national age group title. Now, by scoring as a runner up, Sahithi has qualified to play in the World Cadet Girls Under-10 Championship to be held in Brasilia (Brazil) in August 2017 and the Asian Under-10 girls Championship, 2017.

A third standard student of De Paul’s School, Sahithi was initiated into chess two years ago by her father-cum-coach Lokeswara Rao, a senior officer with the HPCL and chess player Rama Kumar. Post her achievement, District Chess Association President Anand Kumar, and other office-bearers and senior chess players of Visakhapatnam, congratulated Sahithi.

Yo! Vizag also cheers on little Sahithi and wishes her all “grand moves” in the future!
