Karti Chidambaram arrested by CBI in money laundering case

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram has been arrested by CBI in Chennai today for money laundering. He had arrived this morning from London and was interrogated at Chennai airport by the CBI officials. He is now been taken to Delhi for further interrogation. The interrogation will be done by the senior advocate and Congress lawmaker Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

The 46-year-old businessman is accused of a clear foreign investment worth around Rs 300 crores in television company INX Media. The initial case registered claimed that Karti Chidambaram had received a sum of Rs.10 lakhs, but according to the latest reports by CBI, they now have an evidence that he received much more.

The former finance minister, Mr P. Chidambaram said, “The CBI and the ED, as part of political vendetta, have made vexatious searches, issued repeated summons, unreasonably questioned persons for unconscionably long hours, unlawfully attached fixed deposits, maliciously leaked false information to the media and otherwise caused extreme harassment, anguish, and humiliation to me and my son, and to other persons who are normal business and social friends of my son.”

Currently, Karti Chidambaram is not allowed to travel abroad as a lookout notice has been issued against him as the agencies suspect that he would try to close the foreign accounts where he had deposited the money from the kickbacks.
