Beach picnic ends up behind bars for youth, cops accused

8 youth arrested and 5 shifted to hospital after being accosted and confronted by cops while on a picnic at the beach in Perupalem.

The youth on the beach, were having a spot of fun at the Perupalem beach in Eluru and their picnic turned into a nightmare after they dared to cross boundaries. The rope boundaries to demarcate dangerous areas and accident prone areas on the beach was crossed by the picnic revelers. While they were putting their safety at risk, they were spotted by a constable. The cop tried to pull back one of the youth while lead to a heated argument. Very soon Veeravasaram and Yalamanchili Police Station Sub-inspector and other cops accosted the youth and lathi charged.

After arrest the protesters allege that the youth were subjected to further beatings and now the injured youth have been shifted to hospital. The others have been released. The beach picnic turned nightmare has lead to a flurry of protests against the cops and demands for suspension of concerned officials have been floated.

The police maintain that the barricades have been put up to avoid loss of life and people ignoring spells disaster. The assault on police when they were trying to do their duty has made matters worse they say. Investigations are pending and youth have accused the cops of wrong doings. The cops say they were trying to do their duty.
