Beach Cleanup and Plantation Drive ENC
On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Eastern Naval Command (ENC), there would be a beach cleanup and tree plantation drive on Sunday in the city from 7 AM to 9 AM.
The event is expected to be formally inaugurated by the Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ENC near Sea Pearl Restaurant on Beach Road at 7 AM. Over 4000 naval personnel including defence civilians, their families, personnel from Indian Coast Guard and cadets from NCC and SCC will participate in the event with the pledge “Striving for trash free seas”. The tree plantation is supposed to be undertaken at Gokul Park and inside Naval Coast Battery.
District Collector – Pravin Kumar, T Yoganand – Commissioner of Police, Hari Narayanan – GVMC Commissioner, Baburao Naidu – VUDA Vice Chairman and others are expected to join in this program. Beach cleanup drive will include beach fronts starting from Gokul Park to The Park hotel including Rama Krishna Beach, Tenneti Park, Yarada, Rushikonda and Kalinga beaches. The move is to inculcate amongst the general public the necessity of keeping the beaches clean and of safeguarding our environment.
A beach cleanup was organised in the city earlier this year in February by the Indian Coast Guard as ‘Special Coastal Clean Up’ at Rushikonda Beach. 400 participants from different walks of life — including students from GITAM University, staff from coastal security, Police, Varun Beach Novotel and NCC Cadets participated in the event. At the event, they emphasised the need for cleaner coasts and impact of pollution on the maritime biodiversity, besides effecting the beauty of beaches and livelihood of people dependent on it.
