Professor M. Jagannadha Rao, Geology Department, and director of Information Management Centre in Andhra University has been honored with the ‘Scientist of the Year’ award. The award was given by the National Environmental Science Academy (NESA).
His main vision is to make the university a world-class center for teaching, research, training and consultancy in Engineering, Science, Technology and allied fields, along with extensive industry partnership and international presence.
Prof. Rao heads the Delta Studies Institute, which is a petroleum research institute established by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC), in Andhra University. He has made some significant research related to coastal and deltaic environments of the East Coast of India.
The entire research holds a direct bearing on petroleum exploration. He also has conducted refresher courses, for (ONGC) officials, on applied coal petrology in oil exploration and on modern deltas.
Prof. Rao finished his Ph.D. from Andhra University on the subject of “Origin of coastal sediments along Visakhapatnam and Bhimunipatnam East Coast of India”. This is a detailed work on these sediments, which is a comprehensive investigation covering red sediments, dune sands and beach sands, has been a novel contribution.
The award, for the year 2017, was given to Prof Rao during the NESA’s annual meet in Bhopal recently, as reported.
