Andhra University website hacked
Andhra University’s official website came under attack when it was allegedly hacked by a Pakistani hacker, reports suggest. The issue was, however, rectified within a few hours by the officials.
According to sources, the website was targeted by Pakistani hacker Muhammad Bilal, who has been accused in the past for maligning the websites of several sites related to the Indian government.
The website, andhrauniversity.edu.in, much to the shock of the visitors, displayed provocative slogans such as “Free Kashmir” and “Pakistan Zindabad.”
“Soon after finding that the website was hacked, we have taken steps for rectifying the problem with the help of cyber experts. Such incidents happened last year and two years back also. Though we have been protecting the site with firewall, it seems, the hackers are trying new technologies,” Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao was quoted as saying.
Reportedly, Andhra University has two servers- one which is based completely inside the campus while the other is leased out from a server hiring firm in Bengaluru. It was the Bengaluru server that came under attack and no important data was lost, the officials informed.
Andhra University, located in Visakhapatnam, stands as one of the prestigious educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh and has a rich heritage of educating several scholars in the past.
